Rockville Real Estate

There is something for everyone in the city of Rockville. Home to over 58,000 residents, Rockville is one of the most diverse communities you'll find in this region, with nearly one-third of its residents born outside the United States. Along with the Rockville real estate market, the economy of the city is very strong with nearly 80,000 jobs within its borders.

Named the county seat of Montgomery County in 1776, Rockville has a rich history that dates back more than 250 years ago, and the city is one of Maryland's oldest towns. Its strong city government is another notable feature of the Rockville community that has helped it rank as Number 26 of Money Magazine's 2006 "Best Places to Live."

Rockville real estate is thriving, as the city has grown very rapidly from a leisurely, agricultural county seat to a rather sophisticated city comprised of many neighborhoods. The largest employer of Rockville residents is the federal government, and the city also consists of research offices and headquarters for national corporations, as well as the county government.

There is great historical and architectural value to Rockville as several of the city's landmarks are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These landmarks included the B&O Railroad Station, Old St. Mary's Church and Cemetery, Wire Hardware Company, the Dawson Farm, and the Bingham-Brewer House. Thanks to Peerless Rockville, a non-profit organization formed in 1974, many of these historic buildings were restored to their original beauty. Other historic sites in Rockville included the 1935 Lincoln High School on Stonestreet Avenue, Wootton's Mill historic district, Miller's house, Flint Hill Farm/the Hurley-Carter House, and Rose Hill Mansion.

Rockville's new downtown area offers a number of wonderful events to residents and visitors, and Rockville Town Center is presently undergoing development. It will include the new Rockville Regional Library, a Town Square, three parking garages, and a mix of retail, residential, office, cultural, restaurant, and entertainment uses. Rockville is also home to White Flint Mall, Redgate Public Golf Course, John Hopkins, University of Maryland, and Montgomery College.

Other major developments in Rockville include Fallsgrove, a mixed-use neighborhood development. Offering large single-family homes, beautiful town homes, and luxury condominiums, Fallsgrove consists of 257 acres and is located east of Shady Grove Road, opposite the Shady Grove Medical Center. With its five miles of trails, convenient access to fine area restaurants, major work areas, and superior Montgomery County schools, Fallsgrove is one of the most sought after communities in Rockville.
