Homes for Sale Kentlands
Homes for sale Kentlands have their origins in a 1723 land grant. The property sold to Joseph West was acquired by Henry Clagett in the mid 18th century. Property was passed on to his son Joseph. Wholesale pharmaceutical businessman, Frederick Tschiffely purchased more than 200 acres from Clagett descendents.
Tschiffely’s son built the brick mansion, barn, gatehouse, overseer's house, greenhouse and chicken coop that gave the property the nickname of "The Bricks". The family sold to the area’s namesake in 1942. Otis Beall Kent, a wealthy tax lawyer, set out to create an estate and wildlife sanctuary. Some land later became wildlife sanctuary. The remainder was annexed to the city of Gaithersburg in 1988.
The two urban planners that designed Seaside Florida, Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk were brought in by a developer. The homes for sale Kentlands were built in a neighborhood project that included master planning. The sister development, Lakelands, was built adjacent to Kentlands real estate. Construction started in 1989 and homes for sale Kentlands were available in 1991.
